The Shocking Truth Credit Card Companies Are Afraid To Tell

The Shocking Truth Credit Card Companies Are Afraid To Tell You.

Credit cards are an easy way to immediate gratification to spend and buy with money you dont have and it often forces many to run into debt and even bankruptcy. It is therefore crucial to weigh the pros and cons before filling out any old application for a credit card which I receive almost daily in my mail LOL (:–).

There are several factors which should be considered before applying Ive tried to outline them below but please keep in mind this is a short list to serve as a guideline only:

1. Every time when you apply for credit of any kind or a credit card, a mark is made against your credit rating. The available credit on the card you have is applied to your overall debt ratio even if you dont have a single dollar balance on it !! Can you believe that !

2. Some credit cards give points when you purchase nearly anything. These points can be used for further shopping and other great bonuses, Air Miles for example. Hence, if youre a frequent flyer you should look for credit cards that offer rewards that will be a benefit to you. The points earned by you come in handy for future hotels and flights.

3. Look for credit cards, which offer standard APR and low introductory rates for balance transfers.

4. Some credit cards award you cash back for purchasing at certain stores. Therefore, apply for a card which awards cash back at stores where you actually shop or it wont be worth it.

5. Accountability: In my own situation Ive made myself accountable to my wife for large purchases so as to not let my emotions get the best of me. There will always be another super sale!

6. Checks and Balances: Come up with your own plan for dealing with debt before you apply. This will be something you can look back on if you run up a debt on the card. Tie this in with #5 above so that if you do begin to run a debt balance youll be able to pay it off soon. The majority of credit card holders run a large balance and for many this would be dealt with if they had an accountability partner to work through the debt with.

7. One benefit of credit cards is that if you continually make your payments it looks really good to on your credit statement and may actually help your overall score.

If youre still set on getting a card here are some guidelines to help you choose a reliable company.

1. Interest rates: Your most important factor to consider while managing credit card debt. Choose a low interest rate credit card and only after reading all terms and conditions.

Of course youll be way happier to just pay it off each month but like most you might run a balance here or there and high rate cards can bite you if you do.

2. Annual fees: Most credit cards now do not require any annual fee, this being driven by competition. Try for a credit card company which does not charge any annual fees. Although Ive found in personal experience that if youre wanting the bonuses and points plans there will be a fee in many cases.

3. Withdrawals or Cash advances: Though handy in certain situations this can sometimes be way too tempting and ring up your debt faster than youd like.

4. Loyalty Schemes or Reward points: Cash back rewards and Air miles are used to attract you the customers. Many people chose a specific credit card for these kinds of benefits. Be cautious while buying credit card with these benefits.

5. Insurance: Choose a credit card with insurance, which will cover you from any theft or burglary. If you are a frequent traveler then choose a card which provides you free travel insurance.

6. Gold and Platinum cards: These might look great in your purse or wallet but often they are not the most competitive cards in the market. Annual charges are also applied to these types of cards. So dont decide on designs and colors of cards. Just see their benefits and compare from there.

7. Conduct an online comparison: There are many types of online surveys and comparison reports that have been conducted. Try doing a google.com search on the term credit card reviews.

Of course the above is not an exhaustive list but should put you in the right direction if this is your first time applying for a credit card.

No Annual Fee Credit Card

Most new credit cards come with a no annual fee offer. This hasn’t always been the case. I wonder if issuers realized how much people resented the yearly fee they were charging just to use their credit card?

Now that they gradually eliminated the annual fees, they’ve advanced the ‘no annual fee credit card’ into a marketing incentive. But that doesn’t mean there are no fees at all. That is why you need to read the entire offer before signing for a new credit card.

If you don’t pay the entire balance each month, you must pay a service charge on the unpaid balance. Then if you go over your credit card limit, you must pay an additional fee, perhaps in the $35 range. In addition, if you’re late making any payment, not only are you charged a service charge and maybe an over-limit charge, you’re assessed a late fee as well. These added fees more than make up for the annual fee that has been discontinued for most cards.

When applying for a new credit card, it’s imperative that you plan on and handle your spending and bill paying responsibly. In addition to the added fees, missteps with a credit card can cost you dearly in other ways as well. It can be reflected on your credit report which in turn effects many aspects of your life from a job application, home loan, purchase of a new car, to the interest rate you’re charged on new credit purchases. An unfavorable mark on your credit report can even have an effect when applying for insurance.

No annual fee credit cards are offered by most banks and financial institutions. Once you’ve found a credit card offer that doesn’t charge a yearly fee, you can then look at the additional features of each offer.

No interest for an introductory time can enable you to consolidate debts interest free. Rewards programs for many credit cards include cash back, air miles, and numerous goodies too many to mention. Whatever your current financial situation or outlook, there’s a credit card offer that will fit your needs.

Comparing Credit Card Offers

How do you start to compare credit cards? Finding out the best credit card to suit your needs can be a very time consuming process but one which can save you money and bring you more benefits than just choosing a credit card at random or the one which accepts your application first.

There are many different types of credit cards on the market but knowing which way you are going to deal with your finances before you apply for one could help you choose the best credit card for you.

If you pay off the total amount of your credit card bill every month then you would benefit from a reward credit card. Reward credit cards can offer cash back if you prefer or if you are a traveler then a credit card that offers air miles would benefit you.

If you already have a credit card, with a big balance, and are looking to switch to another then you may want to take advantage of a 0% balance transfer deal where the balance on your current credit card can be transferred without interest being added for an introductory period. Ultimately this will cost you less and gives you the opportunity to pay off your balance a little quicker. Before choosing your 0% balance transfer credit card be aware of the interest rate after your initial interest free period as some cards can have a high interest rate so look around.

For the more extravagant spender, a 0% purchase credit card could be right up your street. In the first several months as an introductory offer there will be 0% interest on what you spend on your credit card meaning you may afford that little luxury item as you won’t be paying interest on your payment.

If you have a bad credit history and are worried whether you would be able to obtain a credit card or not, don’t worry, as there are lenders that will deal with your case, although you will most probably be charged a higher interest rate. Credit cards can benefit you if you have had previous bad debt to rebuild yourself a good credit history.

All of these different types of credit cards also have other added benefits included and you should look at them more in depth. You can save a lot of money by comparing credit cards and the hard work of choosing the best credit card will pay off, right into your back pocket.

Reward Or Cash Back Credit Cards Maximising Your Returns

Reward Or Cash Back Credit Cards Maximising Your Returns

If you are one of the lucky customers who pays off their entire credit card balance in full each month, then interest rates will not be of much importance to you. You pay no interest as you never carry any balance over from month to month. What may be of more interest to you is the loyalty or reward schemes that various credit cards offer and therefore you should be deciding on which card to choose based on this information.

Pay an Annual Fee For Better Rewards?

Some credit cards charge an annual fee and they justify this by referring to the great reward schemes that they offer, but do your homework. It may be surprising to learn that many of the best reward schemes are from cards that do not charge any annual fee and in any case, you typically have to spend over five thousand pounds before the reward scheme will have paid you back your annual subscription fee. If you are being charged an annual fee for your credit card, compare and then consider switching credit card providers.

I Just Want Cash, Now!

There are generally two types of reward scheme. There are cash back schemes and points schemes. Cash back schemes are generally preferable as you are not limited in what you can get for your reward or where you have to spend it. If you are given back cash you can do whatever you like with it and dont have to spend it on a new toaster or other such gift that you can usually cash in your loyalty points for. As well as cash and points, you may also be rewarded with air miles or any other collectible reward.

Reward Points Credit Cards

As well as satisfying yourself that the reward is something that you can actually use, you should find out how much you are rewarded for using the card. Some reward schemes reward as much as 5% on all spending in the US, while in the UK the highest found rate was 2%. Others are closer to 0.4% rewards on all your spending. The difference, as you can clearly see, is substantial.

Maximising Your Gains

Loyalty rewards have been criticised by some consumer protection groups, as well as Which magazine on the grounds that they distract customers from getting the best deals on credit card interest rates and make them put up with worse terms in exchange for meaningless points.

Applying For a Credit Card That Suits You

There are so many good credit card deals on the market at the moment and there are probably as many, if not more, bad credit card offers. The trick is to find the best deal. If, as noted earlier in the article, you pay your balance in full every month them either rewards or a cash back credit card is a good option.

A cash back credit card application is relatively simple, find the deal with the highest cash back (based on your spending level) deduct costs such as annual fees and you have the potential cash back for that particular term. The next step in choosing a rewards credit card is to identify what type of rewards interest you, if you are an avid golfer then I suppose you will not be applying for a football card! Analyse the rewards, costs, spending and return of the card to find the best deal. This can be more time consuming than applying for the cash back offer, but there are rewards credit cards available that can be, if you pardon the pun, more rewarding than others.

For most people a card with good terms and good interest rates is still more important than rewards and if this is the case for you, dont let the rewards put you off.

Before You Compare Credit Card Offers

Are you thinking of applying for a new credit card? If so, you may want to begin asking yourself what your personal financial goal is. After youve recognized your own needs, you can then pick the category of card you desire and begin your journey to compare credit card offers.

For a student who is applying for a first credit card there are a number of credit cards available that include a variety of features. The benefits of each card vary and can include 0% APR introductory, no annual fee, and rewards offered such as cash back, selected merchandise and entertainment

Quite often a student credit card has a lower credit limit which is actually a plus. It introduces the student to the world of credit, while limiting the chance of running up too large of a bill. An added bonus of a student credit card is it helps to build that needed credit rating which is important in todays world. Of course, the student needs to maintain the credit card account in accordance to the issuing company terms and conditions.

There are available airline credit cards. But if you wish to travel on more than one airline, perhaps a rewards credit card that offers bonus travel points would be more suitable. The benefit to a reward card would be that the owner has a choice of how to spend those bonus points. In addition to air miles, the added choices include cash back, selected merchandise, entertainment and gift certificates.

If you already have a number of credit cards that youre paying the minimum balance and they charge an interest rate of more than 0% APR, you might consider a balance transfer credit card. With an introductory 0% APR, you could have anywhere from six to eighteen months to pay down your debt interest free.

Even if you already have bad credit there are still credit card opportunities for you to apply and even receive instant approval. A credit card for people with bad credit, has a higher interest rate than cards for more stellar credit. However you can avoid these higher fees if you pay your balance billed each month. After youve been able to rebuild your credit, you can then talk to the issuer and get a lower interest rate or reapply for a lower interest credit card.

Two additional cards are available for people with bad credit or for people who dont really want to owe on a credit card, but need a card for the convenience of ordering merchandise by telephone or on the internet. These are prepaid credit cards and debit cards.

These two types of cards can be obtained by completing an easy application and making a specified deposit. They work just like a regular credit card and are also accepted at any ATM machine, giving you total access to your available funds.

Getting the Most from Your Credit Card Rewards

Several credit card companies today are offering their customers credit card rewards for being loyal customers. This gives the cardholder the chance to earn points to gain all kinds of prizes. These incentives are great ways to keep customers loyal and using their rewards credit card to earn more points to receive their prizes faster. The more points you earn the more you can receive in the way of prizes they offer. The credit card companies understand that when their loyal customers use their cards more often they are also making more profit, so the system works for everyone involved.

There are many different types of rewards credit cards available. Some offer cash back, which gives the cardholder a certain percentage back from the amount that they spend. This is normally done either monthly or yearly. This can be a great way for person that do not wish to earn points for prizes but would enjoy the cash to spend anyway they desire.

Other credit card rewards are in either a point system or air miles. These types of credit card rewards give you a certain amount of points or air miles for every dollar or two dollars that you charge with your rewards credit card. These points or air miles can then be transferred into free airline tickets, hotel accommodations, and car rentals. However, these are more for people that fly often. The miles normally expire within one year, so if you do not fly but once or twice a year the benefit will not be profitable.

There are some other forms of prizes as well for credit card rewards such as gasoline purchases, etc

To get the most from your credit card rewards you have to, of course, use them. Many people never redeem their points for their rewards. Credit card companies cannot believe the amount of people that never receive their prizes after accumulating enough points to reap the rewards. The important thing to remember is if you are not holding a cash back credit card you will have to contact the credit card company that issued the credit card, so you can claim your rewards. The problem is many people just do not take out the time from their busy life to redeem their points from their rewards credit card program.

However, if you pay attention and just spend a little bit of time you will soon be enjoying the prizes that you can claim with credit card rewards. All you have to do is to use your card instead of using cash, pay off your balance before you have to pay interest and you will be earning points. Now, you are very close to receiving a wonderful thank you from the credit card company.

Quit being one of those people that just forget about their credit card rewards and contact the company once you have enough points for the prize that you wish. You may have enough air miles accumulated to take the entire family on a great vacation and not have to pay for airline tickets!

Balance Transfer Credit Cards And Their Rewards

If you haven’t been credit card shopping recently, you’d be amazed at the variety offered today. In addition to the different interest rates, the extent of rewards or perks offered is vast. There are cards offered to fit everyone’s needs. Good credit, bad credit, in between, 0% APR introductory offers, sky miles, cash back,… just to name a few.

Of course the financial experts would tell you to watch that credit card debt, pay off the balance every month so you don’t have to pay interest. If you do have high balances the experts would also tell you to take out a loan on your home so you could get a lower interest rate and tax advantage too. But that’s not always realistic or possible for some. Perhaps they just bought their first home and the equity is limited. There could be a number of reasons why the professional financial advice just won’t work. So what to do?

What if you just purchased your first home and your credit cards had balances with interest being accrued each month? Then say you like to travel, but you have these bills. Could you plan a trip in the not too distant future? I believe you could.

Most of the credit card companies today have 0% APR introductory offers. This rate is good for six to twelve months and many times is valid for balance transfers and purchases. In addition, many offer rewards such as air miles.

First figure out the most you could pay each month on these accounts combined. Apply for a card that offers 0% APR for twelve months and transfer the balances that are accruing interest to this new account. Now remember, you’re saving interest each month. Then you could use the credit card as much as possible for daily expenses, keeping track of and setting that amount aside each day. At the end of the month, you should pay the amount determined which you could afford on the balance transferred and then pay the entire amount charged for the monthly expenses.

By doing this, you would be paying off the older balance with a 0% interest rate and earning rewards at the same time. At the end of the twelve months you may very well have enough points to take that planned trip. Your credit card balance should be paid off almost completely.

When things seem out of reach, you can achieve them, as long as you have a plan.

Airline Credit Card Frequent Flyer Miles – Reward Credit Card

Airline Credit Card Frequent Flyer Miles – Reward Credit Card Air Miles

There is a difference between an airline credit card with frequent flyer miles or a reward credit card that offers airline miles. As when looking for any consumer product, it’s a good idea to compare the offers side by side.

Airline Credit Card With Frequent Flyer Miles

An airline credit card is for a specific airline. You earn air miles for every dollar you spend on that airline and your miles are routinely added to your frequent flyer account. If you have a preference to a particular airline, this would be the card for you.

The airlines generally have partners such as hotels, restaurants, and car rental agencies and you typically receive points when you use your card to purchase services from any of their affiliates. You may also be given a choice to spend your points to upgrade your flight to first class. Some airlines offer a special bonus of an additional ticket for each ticket your purchase at full fare.

An airline credit card generally carries a yearly fee, whether you use the card or not. They also tend to have higher interest rates, so if you’re not one to pay your balance in full each month, this may not be the type of card for you.

Reward Credit Card Air Miles

If you want a choice of airlines, a reward credit card with air miles may be what you’re looking for. You can earn bonus points to be used for air miles that can be spent on your choice of any airline. Most reward credit cards have no annual fee and lower interest rates than an airline credit card.

With air miles earned with a reward credit card, you are not allowed to apply your air miles earned with frequent flyer miles on another account. Unlike with an airline credit card where you can easily make last minute plans for your flight, generally a reward credit card requires a 21 day notice in advance and a Saturday night stay. Reward card airline miles are often limited to the continental U.S. or a specified zone.

For an international traveler, an airline credit card with frequent flyer miles could be just what you want. Those airline miles can mount quickly. However, if you are just hoping to earn enough points for a short vacation within the U.S. or a specific area, if you use your card for every day purchases and pay the balance each month, to earn free tickets, a reward credit card with air miles would be more suited for you.

Be practical when reviewing your personal needs and financial situation before choosing between an airline credit card with frequent flyer miles or a reward credit card with air miles.
